Maintenance Guidelines for Trees & Shrubs
Thank you for choosing Groundmasters, Inc. to meet your landscaping needs. We hope you are pleased with the finished results and continue to enjoy the outcome for many years to come.
To get the most positive response out of your new landscaping, please read this carefully; this will help you ensure the health of the various plants we have installed for you.
WATERING
For the first 2 weeks, plants must be watered daily
All flowers should receive approximately one half gallon of water daily (~10-15 seconds with a garden hose)
All plants 15-42 inches high should receive approximately one gallon of water daily (~20-30 seconds with a garden hose)
All trees with a 1-2 inch caliper base should receive approximately two to three gallons of water daily (~1 minute with a garden hose)
All trees with a 2.5-5 inch caliper base should receive approximately five gallons of water daily (~1.5 minutes with a garden hose)
After 2 weeks, reduce watering times by half and frequency to 2 to 3 times week
After 4 weeks, reduce frequency to 1 to 2 times per week, depending on season.
PRUNING
All trees and shrubs should be pruned once per year after the first year of installation.
Sculptured ornamental trees (e.g. pom-poms, spirals, and topias) should be pruned two times per year.
All perennials and flowers should be cut back at the end of the season or after the foliage turns brown.
FERTILIZATION
NO plants should be fertilized in the first year of installation (unless otherwise recommended by Groundmasters, Inc.)
After the first year, all plants should be fertilized twice per year one application in March-April and one application in September-October (weather permitting). We do not recommend fertilizing any plants in the summer months or when temperatures are extremely high.
Please visually inspect your plants once per month to look for problems such as insects or dying leaves. Please call us immediately with your concerns to help us prevent permanent damage or loss of your plants.
